This is just a quick update on the blankets project. As you might remember, we were going to have a ‘stitching party’ to make blankets from the little squares that came from the Gaspereau Valley Fibres. While I was waiting for the responses about possible locations, the small squares became a little larger — 12 x 12 inches, to be precise. Wouldn’t it be nice to have ‘missing’ squares in a neutral solid colour to finish this blanket?

So I brought those squares to our knitting group meeting today, and we looked at them, and… guess what? The group decided that we will have a BIG stitching party during our next meeting, on February 4. I can’t tell you how awesome it is because we have quite a few knitters!
It also makes sense to have a trial run with the volunteers who already offered their help — I will keep you posted about that, too.
So — if you are in — get your hooks and needles ready and stay tuned!

Hi Olha I am always up for easy knitting that does not need concentration too much (I have too many unfinished lace projects at the moment). I take it you need 12 inch garter stitch squares, coordinating colours, so I will knit some. But what is the meeting you talked about ‘last night’, and again on February 4th – time ?, venue ? group ??? Thank you for all your friendly, chatty, interesting e mails. Best wishes to you and your family for the new year to come. Pauline
Thank you, Pauline! Garter stitch sqaures will be most appreciated. You can drop them off at any independent yarn store in the area.
About the meeting — I am a member of a local knitting group called Knitco. We get together every first Monday of the month, at the Community Room in Atlantic Superstore on Joseph Howe, at 7 pm. It’s a lot of fun, we have a few traditions like Show and Tell, yearly yarn swap and a Christmas gift exchange (it’s yarn, of course), or occasion knitting technique demonstrations. The group has it’s own charity project when we knit warm items that are distributed to homeless through the local shelters during Christmas season. In 2012, the group donated about 200 items to Adsum House and Metro Turning Point.
Knitco has a group on Ravelry.com but you can also email me for more information.
Great idea,…count me in!
