UPDATE: The rain location for the Knit Something Good event is The Lord Nelson Hotel, right across the street, in the Belle Isle 1 Room. We are very grateful to the hotel administration for providing this beautiful room for free. (Thank you!)
We will have a knitting group style meeting, so please do come even if it rains! But if it doesn’t, join us for a knit-on-the-street event next to the Public Gardens, details are below.
Do you think it would be nice to sit in the shade of those blooming trees across Public Gardens and knit on Saturday afternoon? Do you think it might be fun to puzzle downtown crowd with a large number of nonchalant knitters, out of the blue? If so, come Knit Something Good on Saturday, June 23, 1-3 pm to celebrate our craft, our community, and knitters with big hearts. (Municipal permission obtained). Please bring a lawn chair or a blanket to sit on, and a knitter or two to chat with.
Knit Something Good event is organized in the spirit of the World Wide Knit in Public Day but with the emphasis on knitting for a cause. And it doesn’t have to be knitting in support of local charities either. It seems that knitters, much like gardeners, take great pride in what they produce and share their gift of knitting generously, and that’s what it’s all about.
We would like to share, too. There will be free yarn and patterns, information about local projects to support and samples to admire. Local businesses shared their goods (yarn and chocolates, anyone?) to stuff goodie bags for a raffle. (Please disregard the dates and locations in the older post, it was planned but didn’t happen because of the rain. Just take a look at pictures, will ya?)
Two prolific knitters will win prizes for their hard work and will be carried around Public Gardens on hands by a wild crowd (note to self: check with the wild crowd).
So, what about the weather, you ask? Well, it changes. ALL THE TIME. Like, when I had a reasonable ground to set up the date, there was not one drop of liquid showing on the 14-day forecast. Now, it says ‘isolated showers’. So, while I only plan to take one isolated shower in the morning, The Weather might have a different plan.
I am looking for a close-by rain location and I will update the post shortly, please come back and check.
And again, we will collect purple baby hats, comfort dolls, teddy bears, and finger puppets for the IWK Health Centre if you have any. Knitters who already donated them during the HRM WWKIP day are entered in the draw. If your name is drawn and you are not present, you will be notified by email.
If you donate any item such as a hat or a knitted doll, your name will be entered for a chance to win a ‘goodie bag’. There are two prizes for this draw, one for hats, another for dolls and teddy bears. The third prize will go to a knitter who knit most items in either of these two categories, separately or combined. There will be the fourth prize for a knitter who made most finger puppets.
I keep my fingers, toes, and needles crossed in hope for a good weather and many knitters to show up.
